Nyabondo Centre for Persons with Disabilities was started in 1963 by Rev. Father John Kuntner a Mill Hill Priest from the Netherlands who saw the need to help children with disabilities in the community. The priest found these children crawling and hopeless during his pastoral work in the community.

The Centre was started as John F. Kennedy Memorial Home for Crippled children with only 35 children with disabilities from the community. they were facing stigma and discrimination from their families and the community because of their disabilities, most of them lacked food, clothes and other basic needs.

The administration of the Centre was later taken over by the Irish Sisters: The Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa (FMSA) who managed the Centre until 1988. In 1989, FMSA passed the management responsibility to the congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Saint Anna (FSSA) who administers the Centre to date.

The administrative responsibility currently done by Rev. Sr. Ludovena Anyango Onyino supported by 9 members of the Board appointed by Archdiocese of Kisumu(ADOK)

The Centre has with time developed to be one of the Rehabilitation Centre in Western Kenya Region that provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to persons with Disabilities
