Achievements
For over 60 years that the Centre has been in existence, a lot of achievements have been made;
- Community sensitization and awareness has helped in reducing stigma and discrimination of persons with disabilities in the community
- Early identification and intervention has helped reduce disability prevalence through corrective surgeries and therapy services
- Reduced mobility limitation by provision of assistive devices and mobility aids to support movements of persons with disabilities
- There is increase in social inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities in the community through collaboration with organization of persons with disabilities(OPDs)
- Collaboration with other partners and stakeholders has made services available, accessible and affordable to the vulnerable people with disabilities
- Livelihood for youths with disabilities has improved through vocational training provided
Challenges
Even as Nyabondo continue to serve the community, there are challenges that we continue to experience;
- Inadequate financial support to help the institution grow in terms of infrastructure, human resource and other key areas of operations
- Overwhelming service delivery to persons with disabilities who are vulnerable and unable to cater for the cost of service provided
- Donor fatigue that has seen most donors either withdraw or reduce support, this has made it difficult for sustainability of most the programs at the Centre
